I’m making two new zines for Ōtepoti Zinefest
(Saturday, 2nd November, at Yours, here in Dunedin). I’m keeping this as
easy as possible by compiling drawings I’ve already made. Here’s my
process so far:
Find sketchbooks
Flip through and scan selected pages as PDFs
Combine the PDFs into one document
Duplicate the document, so I have a backup
Rearrange the pages
Delete the pages I don’t need
Crop the pages I’ve kept
Save and print the PDF as a booklet
Hand-fold the printouts and check for errors
Make notes about what I need to do
Make the necessary changes
Print again
Check again
Think about the cover
Still do:
Decide on zine titles
Make the cover drawings
Scan and print onto the coloured card
Print and staple the final zines
Of course, there’s still all the preparation for the day: prices, how
to take money, what to include on my stall, etc. And I have to confess
I’m a little nervous about having a stall at Zinefest, but as they say,
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained!”
